Pool Deck Resurfacing in Cypress, TX
Refinishing the concrete deck around an existing pool — texture, color, and edge detail worked out around how the backyard is used.
Overview
What This Service Covers
Pool deck resurfacing applies a new finished surface over the existing concrete around your pool. The deck stays where it is; what changes is the top — the texture underfoot, the color, and the way the deck relates to the coping, the patio, and the rest of the backyard.
Decks age differently from other outdoor concrete because of what happens on them. Constant wetting, sunscreen and pool chemistry, furniture moving across the surface, and full sun exposure all leave their mark, so a deck can look tired long before the slab underneath it is finished.
CXS Concrete Solutions resurfaces existing decks. We do not build swimming pools, and we do not work on interior surfaces.
Every project starts on the CXS Concrete Solutions side with a walk of your property in Cypress-area projects or a nearby community, followed by a written estimate.
Pool deck surfaces are commonly refreshed in Bridgeland and The Woodlands.
Fit
Decks Worth Evaluating for Resurfacing
- Decks that are structurally sound but stained, faded, or discolored
- Broom-finish decks that now feel rough or worn smooth in the traffic paths
- Backyards where the deck looks dated next to a newer patio or outdoor living area
- Surfaces that get uncomfortably hot and where color and finish are part of the conversation
- Decks with light surface scaling or crazing rather than deep structural cracking
- Pool areas that were remodeled where the deck was left as-is and no longer matches
Scope
Pool Deck Scopes
- Full deck resurfacing
- The whole deck refinished as one surface so there is no visible split between old and new areas.
- Deck plus adjoining patio
- The deck and the connected patio refinished together so the backyard reads as a single space.
- Decorative overlay
- A stamped, scored, or patterned finish over the deck where the goal is a different look, not just a fresh surface.
- Textured traction finish
- A finish chosen with wet-foot traction as the priority for the areas people walk on most.
- Coping-edge detailing
- Careful work at the coping line and pool edge, which is finished separately from the open field.
- Furniture and seating zones
- Layout attention where loungers, tables, and umbrella bases sit, since those areas take concentrated wear.
Groundwork
Preparing an Existing Pool Deck
A deck sits in a wet, chemically active, heavily used environment, so preparation has to go further than a wash-down. The surface is cleaned and profiled, the existing condition is documented, and the edges around the pool are planned before anything is applied.
Preparation checklist
- Cleaning to remove organic growth, sunscreen residue, and mineral staining
- Identifying old sealers, coatings, or paint that would prevent a bond
- Mechanical profiling so the overlay grips the existing concrete
- Evaluating cracks and joints, including any that run toward the pool shell
- Checking how water leaves the deck and whether it drains away from the house
- Protecting the pool, coping, tile, equipment, and landscaping during the work
- Planning the detail at the coping line, steps, and any raised beam or spa edge
Finish Systems for Wet Exterior Surfaces
Pool decks are one of the most demanding exterior surfaces there is: wet, sunlit, and walked on barefoot. Material and texture selection follows from those conditions and from the deck we find on site.
- Polymer-modified overlays intended for exterior wet-area service
- Texture selected for barefoot traction rather than appearance alone
- Lighter color families discussed where surface heat is a concern, without promising a specific temperature
- Color coordinated with existing coping, tile, and adjoining patio surfaces
- Topcoat selected for outdoor exposure where the system calls for one
- Detail materials for the coping edge and step nosings
Appearance
Pool Deck Finish Options
- Textured knockdown
- A common deck finish — texture for wet traction without being harsh underfoot.
- Stamped overlay
- A stone or tile pattern impressed into the overlay, often with a contrasting border at the coping.
- Scored panel layout
- Cut lines that divide a large deck into panels and follow the shape of the pool.
- Stained field with border
- A colored main field framed by a band around the pool edge or the outer deck perimeter.
- Matched patio transition
- The deck finished so it continues into the adjoining patio rather than stopping at an abrupt line.
- Step and edge detail
- Steps, raised beams, and spa surrounds finished so the edges read cleanly against the field.

What Affects Pool Deck Resurfacing Cost
Deck pricing follows the shape of the deck and the condition of the concrete as much as its size. A simple rectangular deck and a curved deck with steps, a spa, and a raised beam are different projects at the same square footage.
- Deck area and how much of it is edge, step, and detail rather than open field
- Condition of the existing surface and how much preparation it needs
- Removal of existing coatings, paint, or failing sealer
- Crack and joint treatment identified during evaluation
- The finish selected, from a single-color texture to a multi-color stamped layout
- Access to the backyard for materials and equipment
- Protection required around the pool, coping, tile, equipment, and landscaping
- Whether an adjoining patio or walkway is included in the same scope
We don't publish prices for this service. Pricing comes from a site visit and a written estimate specific to your property.
Process
How a Pool Deck Project Runs
- Step 01
Backyard walk
We look at the deck, the coping line, the drainage, and how the space is actually used before recommending anything.
- Step 02
Finish and color discussion
Texture and color are chosen against the coping, the tile, the house, and any patio the deck connects to.
- Step 03
Written estimate
You receive a written scope covering preparation, the system, the finish, edge detail, and protection.
- Step 04
Protection and preparation
The pool and surroundings are protected, then the deck is cleaned, profiled, and its cracks and joints treated.
- Step 05
Application and detailing
The overlay is applied and finished, with the coping edge, steps, and borders detailed separately from the field.
- Step 06
Walkthrough
We walk the finished deck with you and go over cure time before foot traffic, furniture, and swimming resume.
Aftercare
Keeping a Resurfaced Deck Looking Right
A deck finish lives in a harsher spot than most outdoor concrete. Regular rinsing and a little care with furniture go a long way.
What we ask of you
- Keep off the deck for the period we give you at the walkthrough
- Rinse the surface regularly, especially where splash-out and chemicals concentrate
- Use furniture glides and lift rather than drag loungers and tables
- Clean up spilled sunscreen, oils, and drinks before they sit in the surface
- Avoid harsh acid cleaners and pressure washing at close range
- Let us know if an edge or coping detail lifts so it can be addressed early
