Driveways in this part of Harris County sit on clay soils that expand when wet and shrink through a dry August. That movement is normal and it never fully stops, so the useful question is not how to prevent it but how the slab is prepared, jointed, and drained so movement shows up as planned joint activity rather than random cracking.

Grade is the other half of it. Water needs a path off the surface and away from the garage and the house.
